Jarnac International Comics Workshop

Since 2022, for one weekend during the summer, Le Secret, an idyllic venue in the town of Jarnac (in the French department of Charente), has hosted an annual comics workshop conducted by Serbian—and international—cartoonist Aleksandar Zograf.

From the beginning, the event was envisioned as a meeting place for comics creators from different countries, offering them the opportunity to discuss comics, present their work, and exchange experiences in a beautiful setting near Angoulême, the French “capital” of comics and a world-renowned hub for comics promotion, research, and exhibitions.

Le Secret’s conference room is equipped with a projector and a large screen, perfect for slideshows and presentations. The venue’s owners, Predrag Popović and Catherine Popović, actively support collaboration between international cartoonists and encourage experimentation with different graphic expressions and artistic approaches.

This spirit of creativity is nurtured not only through direct interaction among artists but also through visits to art events and inspiring locations in and around the town.

Aleksandar Zograf (www.aleksandarzograf.com) is the pseudonym of Saša Rakezić, who began publishing his comics in the former country of Yugoslavia in the mid-1980s.

During the 1990s, his work gained international recognition, with publications through Fantagraphics Books in the United States and L’Association in France, among others.

Collections of his comics have also been published in Italy, the United Kingdom, Serbia, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Japan, Hungary, and various other countries.
