Johanna Schipper is a Taiwanese-born French bande dessinée cartoonist, writer, and educator. She received the 2008 Prix Artémisia for women’s comics. Since 2010, she has been teaching at the ÉESI in Angoulême. She defended her doctoral thesis titled “A Figured Space. Authentic Dream Comics Published in France, 1990–2020” at Bordeaux-Montaigne University. The thesis examines nearly 600 dream diaries, most of which were published in small-press magazines, fanzines, blogs, and on social networks. The research adopts a transdisciplinary approach, while also rehabilitating self-observation as a legitimate method for investigating dream consciousness.
